Prayatna

Prayatna is our Parish CCO/NGO with a vision to Empower women and children of the marginalised sections of the society through formal and non-formal education leading to holistic growth and development.

Prayatna has rendered 23 years of selfless service to the marginalised sections of Orlem. We have 550 students. We run Balwadis in the slums for around 200 kids.

Our coaching classes for primary students both of municipal Tamil school and private English medium schools comprise around 250. Our Tamil night school for school dropouts gives our youth an opportunity to complete their S.S.L.C through Chennai Board.

Prayatna’s backbone is its committed staff and teachers. We have around 30 members on roll and 15-20 Volunteers. Besides studies we also organise various activities, competitions and outings for our children and women. We provide daily snacks worth Rs 15 per child as we believe that satisfying hunger is most important while imparting knowledge.

We work with the women in the areas and have SHG (Self Help Groups) and Mahila Mandals. Women come together once a month and discuss various issues that affect them. We also support 45 grans through HelpAge India Programme. We also distribute rations to 50 needy families of our parish.

We run 2 tailoring classes to empower our women. Garments and articles produced by these women are displaced and sold at regular sales organised in the Parish.

We also have a child guidance clinic, marriage counselling services and Legal guidance.
